Rep. John Ley opposes bill that would allow for higher tolls for the I-5 Bridge project

June 5, 2025by John Ley

Voting No on doubling Toll-funded debt

During the 2025 legislative session, House Bill 1958 would allow for the issuance of up to $2.5 billion of bonds for the design, right-of-way, and construction of the Interstate 5 Bridge Replacement Project.

This is DOUBLE what the original finance plan called for, and therefore citizens would likely be paying DOUBLE the price of tolls, if the full $2.5 billion were borrowed. Citizens oppose tolls in SW Washington and Rep. Ley fights on behalf of the people.

Furthermore, we don’t have a final design. We don’t have a final cost for the project — the people have just been told the price will go “up”. We don’t know what we’re buying.

Take a listen as Rep. Ley raises the multiple issues on the floor of the House and why the legislature shouldn’t pass HB 1958.
