TriMet Fleecing taxpayers for Interstate Bridge light rail

June 1, 2025by John Ley

Here’s a quick update, just before the Hazel Dell Parade of Bands, on the light rail for the Interstate Bridge Replacement program. TriMet is trying to fleece taxpayers, at the local and federal levels.

You can read a much more in depth article here. There is no need for 19 light rail vehicles for a 1.83 mile light rail extension, and Clark County and Washington taxpayers should pay for any of them. TriMet ordered 26 replacement light rail vehicles FOUR months before the Governors of Washington and Oregon started the project. These are simply REPLACEMENT vehicles for 26 of their old, worn out light rail train cars, they bought nearly 40 years ago.

TriMet seeks $190M-$290M for Interstate Bridge light rail vehicles; charging taxpayers up to $15M per vehicle — triple the $4.5M cost
