TriMet’s awful financial situation at RTC Board

RTC has a fiduciary obligation to evaluate projects & agencies

At the May RTC Board meeting, I shared that TriMet was promising to CUT 65 percent of their bus service, if they didn’t get a 400 percent increase in an Oregon statewide “head tax” on employers. I requested a briefing and discussion for the June Board meeting.

The June 3rd Board meeting did not have a discussion about TriMet and it’s financial situation on the agenda, so I shared the following remarks.

TriMet has 19 percent more employees than they did a decade ago.

TriMet is carrying 36 percent FEWER riders, than they did a decade ago.

TriMet is spending 84 percent MORE than they did a decade ago.

They are not a financially viable organization, in my opinion.

The research I did can be read in this Clark County Today column.
